Mercy Afolaranmi, a 100-level student of Microbiology at the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, has suicide due to poor grades.

Her fellow students and a neighbor also revealed that Mercy killed herself due to poor grade.

A neighbor, Bimpe Oni, said the student, who lived off-campus at Sabo area of ​​Ile-Ife, died on Thursday, after taking "Rat poison mixed with battery extract." Aisha, Miss Afolaranmi's colleague in the Faculty of Science, said the deceased had 'E' in CHM101, a reportedly dreaded course for one year student in science and technology related faculties.

She disclosed, "Mercy often isolated herself in class and looked depressed. She told me she had 'E' in CHM101 and had been going around unhappy before this incident."
